Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan Monday laid into the US, advising President Donald Trump to abandon plans to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to the holy city of Jerusalem.
“The debates over the possibility of US moving its Israel embassy to Jerusalem are extremely wrong and should certainly drop from the agenda,” Erdogan said.
The Turkish leader speaking in Istanbul at the International Forum on the Middle East conflict noted that any such an idea will be wrong and should be forsaken immediately.
The Trump administration is mulling plans to shift the US embassy to Jerusalem, which constitutes a bone of contention between Palestinians and Israelis. Palestinians want to make the holy city their capital after granted full statehood status.
Moving the US embassy to Jerusalem will kill Palestinians’ dream of a state.
Erdogan said everyone should be careful on issues that concern the status of Jerusalem, warning that even “relocating a stone” in the city could have serious implications, Times of Israel reports.
