In finding new ways to cost effectively treat natural gas in order to produce Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), Honeywell’s UOP jointly signed with Qatar Petroleum (QP) a research and development agreement purposely to work together and develop more efficient technologies for the purification process of natural gas into LNG. The agreement was signed by His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman of QP, and UOP President and CEO Dr. Rajeev Gautam, on Thursday at the QP headquarters.
QP, a state-owned public corporation, and UOP, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Honeywell International Incorporation, a diversified technology and manufacturing leader, collaborated in 2013 to establish the first Engineering Design Seminar program in the Middle East which was to meet the growing demand for highly-trained engineers who specialize in refinery process units and equipment. In 2012, UOP formed market alliances with Thomas Russell Co.
With a combined LNG production capacity of 77 million tons per annum by QP ventured companies; Qatargas and RasGas. Honeywell’s UOP which offers technology, equipment and materials to treat and process natural gas, purify the hydrogen used in refineries and recover natural gas liquids, is known for its leading role in natural gas treating technologies.
Together, these companies could help meet the world’s rising demands for natural gas especially in regions that are not served by pipelines. H.E Dr. Al-Sada believes that “developing more efficient technologies to remove contaminants from natural gas will help boost Qatar’s reputation as a safe, reliable supplier of natural gas as well as high-quality products.” Dr. Guatum said that UOP looks forward to extending its long-standing relationship with QP to develop technology in this important field.
Qatar is known as the world’s largest producer and exporter of LNG.
