The $232 million Phase II project of the Saih Rawl Depletion Compression (SRDC2) on behalf of Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), the country’s first oil and gas exploration and Production Company, has been awarded to an Indian-based engineering and construction conglomerate Larsen and Toubro Limited (L&T). The project is part of plans to assure the flow of gas from reservoirs after there performance in reservoir pressure started to fall due to production for several years.
The gas fields of Saih Rawl are PDO’s largest concession and production started since 1999. The falling reservoir pressure has affected production. Therefore, to assure the production of gas through the Central Processing Plant (CPP), the phase II project awarded to Larsen and Toubro Limited has to be in place before the first quarter of 2015; by that time, the flowing Tube Pressure of the Saih Rawl wells would be at a level low of 35 bar.
The SRDC2 involves the setting up of 76 MW of gas compression capacity with 4 trains, and the modification of the condensate handling system at CPR. This will enable the Saih Rawl Main field to reach a production capacity of Maximum Annual Daily Load (MADL) of 30 MMSCMD gas.
The phase 1 of the project was inaugurated by PDO in April and it was able to lift inlet pressure to 96 bar from 36 bar. It has the capacity to handle 48 million standard cubic meters of gas per day accompanied with a power supply of 120 MW.
Gas and condensates from the Saih Rawl field are collected and processed at Saih Rawl Central Processing Plant where the depletion compression is located. The treated gas is then sent to principal customers.
