Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar laid Sunday the groundwork for a cancer center expected to serve 15 million people, a statement from the government said.
Tanta Oncology Center, as it is referred to, will cost around $85.2 million and will be built on a total area of 6,400 square meters (sqm).
It will include all medical specialties related to diagnosis and treatment of tumors for all age groups.
The center will also feature four buildings including the main building, as well as 20 buildings of outpatient clinics, nuclear medicine, and radiation treatment, along with an administrative building.
The hospital is meant to improve the efficiency of the old Tanta Oncology Centre, which has a capacity of 137 beds (115 internal beds, 22 intensive care beds), as well as (33 chemical chairs, 5 operating rooms, 12 external clinics).
