After the UAE and 16 African states, Libya is set to be the next state to open a consulate in Laayoune, the largest city in Morocco’s Southern provinces, the Sahara, a Moroccan media reports.
Libyan authorities have launched preparations for the opening of the consulate, a move which was unanimously accepted by all Libyan parties.
Morocco has been hosting the Libyan dialogue in Bouznika where Libyan parties kicked off on November 5 the third round of talks over senior government positions.
The North African Kingdom has also played a key role in brokering the 2015 political agreement, known as SKhirate deal, which the Moroccan diplomacy has described as a platform that needs to be adapted to help end the Libyan conflict.
The opening of a Libyan consulate in the Sahara will further boost Morocco’s position within Africa and the Arab world and add a nail to the coffin of the Polisario and its mentor Algeria, both in political and economic disarray.
