Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita was received, as special envoy of King Mohammed VI, by King Salman Bin Abdelaziz on Tuesday (June 13th) in Jeddah.
The Moroccan official who was in Jeddah part of a Gulf tour conveyed to the Saudi Monarch a verbal message from King Mohammed VI.
Before Saudi Arabia, the Royal envoy visited Abu Dhabi and Kuwait City where he conveyed messages from King Mohammed to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and to the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
The Moroccan envoy’s tour is in connection with the diplomatic crisis that flared up on June 4, when Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and other Arab countries cut ties with Qatar for its alleged support of “terrorist groups” and for “undermining the security of Gulf states.” Qatar rejected the allegations as “unfounded.”
The tour is taking place after Morocco offered officially its mediation to find a way out of this crisis.
King Mohammed VI called on all parties to show restraint and wisdom in order to defuse the tension and overcome the crisis with a view to “finding a lasting settlement to the causes that have led to the current situation in line with the spirit that has always characterized the Gulf Cooperation Council.”
