Morocco’s King outlines proposals to final solution to Palestine-Israel conflict

King Mohammed VI has outlined this Monday proposals to a final settlement to the Palestine-Israel conflict saying that the deteriorating conditions in the region require going beyond the logic of crisis management and seeking, instead, a final solution to this conflict.

This came in a speech the King delivered, on Monday, on Throne Day, marking this year the 25th anniversary of the Sovereign’s accession to the Throne, in which he underlined that the keen interest he takes in the situation prevailing in Morocco does not mean that he is “oblivious of, or insensitive to, the tragedy befalling our Palestinian brothers and sisters.”

“As Chairman of the al-Quds Committee, I managed to have an unprecedented route opened up, through which we delivered urgent food and medical aid to our brothers and sisters in Gaza,” he recalled.

Actually, King Mohammed VI had ordered the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the Palestinians in Gaza in June and March this year.

The aid was conveyed, in an unprecedented move, by route, making of Morocco the first nation to use the Kerem Shalom border crossing to send aid to Gazans.

The Sovereign pointed out that “if putting an end to the war in Gaza is an urgent priority, then this must be achieved concurrently with opening up political prospects conducive to a just and lasting peace in the region.”

As a second step to end the conflict, the King argued that opting for negotiations to revive the peace process between the Palestinian and Israeli sides “requires cutting off the path for extremists – from whatever side they may come.”

Thirdly, the King underlined, achieving complete security and stability in the region can be realized only within the framework of the two-state solution, with Gaza an integral part of the territory of the independent Palestinian state, and East Jerusalem its capital.

Part of the same responsible commitment, the King assured that He would continue to support constructive initiatives aimed at finding practical solutions for the conclusion of a concrete and lasting ceasefire and addressing the humanitarian situation.
