An undisclosed Chinese company will launch in the Iraqi Kurdish capital Erbil a $5-billion tourism project expected to create over 8,000 job opportunities, a local official has told media, Zawya reports.
Director of Erbil Board of Investment Saman Arab told Bas News Saturday, Zawya notes, that project dubbed ‘Happy City’, is a direct investment by a Chinese company adding that an agreement with the Ministry of Municipality and Tourism to get 5,000 square kilometres of land for the project, had been already inked.
The investment will be largest foreign direct investment in the autonomous Iraqi region. The project to be executed in multiple phases includes dozens of world-class hotels, restaurants, amusement parks, artificial lakes, residential complexes, shopping malls, hospitals and schools.
