Palestine: Rift in Gulf favors Israel, Hamas warns

The Palestinian Hamas movement controlling the Gaza Strip Wednesday lambasted Saudi Arabia’s condition to restore ties with Qatar adding that the current Qatar-Arab fallout will favor Israel, which will exploit the situation against the Palestinian people.

The movement is facing tough economic conditions in the Strip, which has been under an Israeli blockade for over a decade.

Qatar is known as a main backer of the movement and seen as one the major donors for Gaza reconstruction following the 2014 conflict between Hamas and Israel.

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir, Tuesday during a visit in France, said Qatar could only return to Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) if it stops funding Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood.

Hamas in a statement laid into the Saudi position as it argued that “it is a legitimate movement.

“It is no secret to anyone how the Zionist enemy exploits such statements to commit more violations and crimes against our people and our land and our sanctities and the right of Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque,” it added.

The movement further pointed out that Riyadh’s condition contradicts the international laws and Arab and Islamic positions, which emphasize the right of the Palestinian people to resist and struggle to liberate their land and holy sites, Middle East Monitor (MEMO) reports.
