Iran: Rouhani hits back at Trump, pledging to continue ballistic missile enrichment

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani Monday responded to US President Donald Trump’s bash on Iran pointing out that the US will never prevent Iran from continuing its ballistic missile program.

“The Iranian nation has decided to be powerful. Our missiles are for peace and for defence … American officials should know that whenever we need to technically test a missile, we will do so and will not wait for their permission,” Rouhani was quoted by the Iranian TV as saying.

The 68-year old re-elected President also picked on Washington arguing that it failed in all its attempts to isolate Iran.

“Americans resorted to many different methods against Iran but failed in all … We are waiting for the new government to find stability and continuity in its policies,” he said.

“The problem is that the Americans do not know our region and those who advise U.S. officials are misleading them,” he added.

US President Donald Trump who is on his maiden international visit, criticized, during his Riyadh stop, Iran for creating disorder in the region and blamed it for supporting terrorism.

Rouhani, known as pragmatist and reformist has engaged his country in foreign policy changes.

In 2015, he brought his country to sign a deal with world powers, providing for curbing Iran’s nuclear program and lifting economic sanctions on Tehran.
