The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has firmly opposed US President Donald Trump’s controversial plans for the Gaza Strip, as expressed in a recent telephone conversation between Emirati President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the importance of achieving a fair and lasting peace in the region, one that ensures the security and stability of all parties. He reiterated the UAE’s commitment to the two-state solution, rejecting any proposals that would forcibly displace Palestinians or deny them their fundamental rights.
The UAE’s stance aligns with that of Egypt, as President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi works to rally support from Gulf nations to counter Trump’s proposal to relocate Gaza’s residents. The proposal has drawn criticism not only from regional powers, but also from Egyptian officials, who see it as a threat to their national security and a blow to their regional standing.
As part of their coordinated response, Egypt is preparing for an emergency Arab summit on 27 February to unify Arab nations in rejecting the plan and to discuss alternative solutions to the Palestinian issue.
In contrast to Trump’s relocation plan, Egypt has devised its own reconstruction initiative for Gaza. This plan, developed with the support of Arab and international partners, aims to rebuild Gaza and provide safe zones for its residents, with plans for infrastructure development, housing, and key facilities such as hospitals and schools. The UAE’s alignment with Egypt on this issue underscores their commitment to supporting Palestinian rights and territorial integrity, as they work towards a cohesive and constructive Arab response to the ongoing crisis.
