King Abdallah II of Jordan is expected in Rabat this Wednesday on a three-day state visit at the invitation of King Mohammed VI.
The two leaders are scheduled to hold talks on their countries’ bilateral relations as well as international and regional issues of shared concerns.
King Abdallah whose country is hosting the Arab league 28th Summit March 29-30 is reportedly going to invite personally the Moroccan monarch to attend the forthcoming Summit in Amman, press reports say.
Last year, Morocco declined to host the summit citing the many divisions cracking the Pan-Arab organization. Rabat argued that the moment was not conducive to host the summit at a time the Arab world was challenged by the conflicts in Yemen, Syria and Palestine, in addition to terrorism-related issues.
Mauritania was awarded the organization of the 27th summit but many leaders, including King Mohammed VI, chose not to attend. The summit was by and large rated as a fiasco by many analysts.
The Wednesday visit to Morocco is the fifth by the Jordanian monarch who enjoys good ties with King Mohammed VI. He last visited Morocco in March 2015. Both leaders ascended to throne in 1999.
Morocco and Jordan are both close partners of the Gulf Cooperation Council, mustering Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
