Forbes Magazine has listed three Egyptian companies in its choice of the Middle East and North Africa top 10 sustainable companies.

It, Forbes notes, helps corporate and government entities and homeowners to minimize the cost of solar systems by paying in installments. The Cairo-based company has designed, procured, and installed more than 55 projects. It co-managed the development plan of a $100 million 50MWp solar farm in Aswan.
ECARU, much older (founded in 1997), s part of Egyptian investment firm Qalaa Holdings and is the sister company to Engineering Tasks Group (ENTAG). The firm led by Hisham Sherif, the company specializes in recycling biomass and municipal solid waste (MSW). It currently receives 500,000 tons of MSW on its projects. ECARU collects and processes around 1.5 million tons of agricultural residues per year. It also has operations in Libya, Cyprus, and Ethiopia.
The third, Karm Solar, was among the first private companies in Egypt to be licensed to distribute solar electricity. Managed by Ahmed Zahran, the company provides microgrid solutions, so remote destinations can set up off-grid solar power plants on site. Karm Solar boasts the installation of 31.4 MW of renewable energy, offsetting 10,000 tons of CO2 and saving 2.3 million liters of diesel annually. The young company established in 2011 launched in September this year its water solutions division Karm Water with a solar-powered water desalination project in Marsa Alam.
The choice of the companies which also features companies from Morocco, UAE, Oman, used criteria including size of the business in terms of assets, revenues, project value, and production size, transparency in reporting sustainability figures, diversity in terms of geography as well as technology and subsectors.
