UK-based UVA, ridesharing app, will start operating in Egypt from June to compete with Uber which dominates the market.
The British company, Arab Finance citing Al Masry Al Youm will start activities with 3,000 drivers in capital Cairo and Giza.
Users of the service will benefit from a competitive price compared with existing alternatives.
Egypt’s ridesharing market is dominated by Uber following the acquisition of its Middle East rival Careem in 2020 for $3.1 billion.
To regulate the market and to ensure a healthy competition, the Arab Republic required that Uber provides potential competitors and new market entrants with access to its mapping data and data aggregated from trips, as well as customer and driver data.
