Iraq gearing up for early parliamentary elections – PM

aqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi Tuesday announced the Middle East country is preparing to hold early legislative elections to complete the country’s sustainable constitutional establishment, Middle East Monitor (MEMO) reports.

Kadhimi made the announcement at a meeting with United Nations Special Representative for Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert.

The Iraqi leader reportedly indicated that Baghdad will need international support and cooperation in the preparation phase.

“The Iraqi government will work hard to overcome the obstacles that were previously faced during the previous electoral processes,” Kadhimi stressed.

The elections are one of Khadhimi’s top priorities since taking office early last month.
